While in law school, Mr. Matthews volunteered as a legal clerk with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. Mr. Matthews helped promote the state’s interest in eradicating discrimination based on race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex (gender), age, disability, and sexual orientation. During his clerkship, Mr. Matthews assisted in litigating a variety of discrimination claims, including employment and housing discrimination.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Matthews practiced labor and employment law, counseling both large employers and individuals regarding employee rights and obligations on issues ranging from wage and hour disputes to collective bargaining. Mr. Matthews assisted employers with crafting policies and strategies to minimize exposure to discrimination claims and also developed other procedures necessary for the effective functioning of their businesses. When litigation was unavoidable, Mr. Matthews assisted clients with obtaining the best possible outcome.
Mr. Matthews obtained his Bachelors of Arts, magna cum laude from Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor and LLM from Boston University School of Law.
Mr. Matthews is licensed to practice law in California and New York. Previously, Mr. Matthews practiced law in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
